The Seawolves went 2-9 overall and just 1-7 in conference play. Head coach Chuck Priore now enters his 17th season at the helm of the program.

CAA Football returns eight programs that finished with winning records in 2022. That includes William & Mary, who went 11-2 overall and tied with New Hampshire atop the CAA standings with a 7-1 record.

The Seawolves became a Division-I college football program in 1999 and now are a Division-I FCS program. 

How Many Time Has Stony Brook Football Made It To The FCS Playoffs?

The Seawolves have reached the FCS Playoffs four times and have a 3-4 playoff record. 

When Did Stony Brook Football Join The CAA?

Stony Brook became a member of CAA Football in 2013, following rival Albany to the league. 

Since joining the CAA, Stony Brook has won 39 conference games and has a 39-44 conference record. 

The best CAA season the Seawolves have had was in 2017, when the team finished second in the league with a 7-1 record and a 10-3 overall mark. 

Has Stony Brook Football Ever Won The CAA Title?

No. 

In 2017, the program finished second. In 2018, they finished third. 

Who Is The Stony Brook Football Head Coach?

Chuck Priore is entering his 17th season as head coach. 

Before arriving at Stony Brook, Priore was the head coach at Trinity College and went 39-9 from 2000-2005. 

He has 97-91 record as a coach and twice was named the Big South Coach of the Year (2009, 2011). 

The Long Island native played football at Albany. 

Who Is Stony Brook Football’s Biggest Rival? 

That would be Albany. 

The two programs play in the Battle For The Golden Apple, which has been played between the two New York State teams since 1995. 

Albany has the longest win streak in the rivalry at six games and won the game in 2022, 59-14, the largest victory of the series. Albany also has the edge in the rivalry's overall record, 13-10. 

The two schools didn’t regularly play each other until they both joined the CAA. 

The rivalry game first was coined the Empire Clash, and the Golden Apple (and name change) was introduced in 2015. 

The game is often played during the last week of Stony Brook’s regular season.
