UAlbany football is looking to bounce back in the 2023 season following a span of disappointing seasons including last year when the Great Danes finished 3-8. 

Head coach Greg Gattuso is entering his 10th season at Albany. His tenure has been filled with ups and downs as the Great Danes have had six losing seasons under Gattuso including the last three years.

 In 2019, Gattuso led the team to a record of 9-5 that included reaching the second round of the FCS playoffs. 

If the Great Danes are going to get back to the success they had in 2019, they'll have to rely on returning redshirt sophomore quarterback Reese Poffenbarger. Last year was Poffenbarger’s first season playing college football and he didn’t disappoint by throwing for 2,999 yards, winning CAA Offensive Rookie of the Year and winning CAA Rookie of the Week six times. 

A notable new addition to the coaching staff is assistant running back coach, former New England Patriot and Super Bowl champion Dion Lewis.

UAlbany Football Travels to Hawaii

The Great Danes will have a gap in their schedule as they prepare to travel across the country and over the Pacific to play the University of Hawaii in Week 3 on Sept. 9. 

Albany will have a bye the following week before hitting the road again to Baltimore for a game against Morgan State.
