Monmouth Football Schedule 2023: What To Know
What to know about the 2023 Monmouth football schedule as the Hawks look to improve from last season.
The founding father of Monmouth football enters his 31st season as head coach as he looks to improve upon his 5-6 record from 2022. Kevin Callahan, the second longest tenured coach in FCS football, is attempting to return to the playoffs for the third time in his career with the Hawks.
Callahan led the Hawks to the FCS playoffs twice, in 2019 and 2020. This year the 68-year-old coach is hoping the third time happens this year.

After last season's starting quarterback Tony Muskett transferred to Virginia, Callahan will have to decide who the starting quarterback will be this fall.
Although there will be a quarterback battle taking place, the decision may not be as difficult following the transfer of Sacred Heart’s Marquez McCray into the program.
Last season with Sacred Heart, McCray threw for 1,973 yards and eight touchdowns.
The only other quarterback with some in-game experience on the roster is Enzo Arjona who started the last five games of the season for the Hawks in 2022.
Whoever the starting quarterback will be, the Hawks will heavily rely on star running back Jaden Shirden to lead them to success.
Last season, Shirden was the CAA offensive player of the year along with leading the FCS in rushing yards (1,722), yards per carry (8.36), and rushing yards per game (156.5). Shirden was named the 2023 CAA Preseason Offensive Player of The Year.
Shirden, who has already been named to the Athlon Sports and Hero Sports FCS All-American team, will undoubtedly be the key piece to Monmouth’s offense this season.
