Here’s what to know as Indianapolis take on Saginaw Valley State at Harvey Randall Wickes Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. Eastern.
The University of Indianapolis Greyhounds will play the Saginaw Valley State University Cardinals in Week 4. They’ll meet at Harvey Randall Wickes Memorial Stadium in University Center, Michigan.
Last week, SVSU lost a nonconference meeting with Truman, 21-7, to end the perfect start to its 2023 season. The Cardinals opened the year with wins over Winona State (34-24) and Northwood (31-8).
UIndy also started the year with a pair of wins, separated by a week off. The Greyhounds topped Hillsdale in their season opener, 39-20, then picked up a victory against Wayne State last week, 28-7.
Through three games, SVSU is averaging 373.3 total yards per game, which includes 134.3 through the air and 239 on the ground. UIndy is averaging 486.5 total yards per game.

Five Players To Watch During The 2023 GLIAC Football Season
The Greyhounds moved up in the American Football Coaches Association Division II Coaches Poll, which had them at No. 16 on Tuesday, up from No. 18 last week. Saginaw Valley State is not ranked and did not receive any votes.
Two-time defending Division II national champion Ferris State, a GLIAC foe of SVSU, tops the poll again this week. Saginaw Valley State will travel to face Ferris State on Oct. 7.
SVSU and UIndy have met 33 times since 1978, with SVSU holding a 23-10 advantage, which includes 16 consecutive Saginaw Valley wins from 1990-2007.
Their 2022 showdown was their first meeting since 2015, and the result was a 38-14 SVSU victory that ended a three-game winning streak for UIndy in the series. The Greyhounds were ranked No. 8 at the time, and the loss was their first of the 2022 season.
What To Know About Saginaw Valley State Football
Sophomore quarterback Mike O’Horo has handled the majority of the snaps for the Cardinals this season, and he has completed 22-of-32 attempts for 273 yards. He has thrown for one touchdown and one interception and has been sacked three times.
The leading rusher for SVSU is running back Terrance Brown, a redshirt freshman, who has carried the ball 43 times for 285 yards and two touchdowns. Junior Arron Foulkes is the top receiver with 122 yards, but he has not yet scored this season.
Defensively, junior linebacker Alfred Dailey Jr. shined early for SVSU, as a 10-tackle performance in the season-opening win over Winona State earned him GLIAC Football Defensive Player of the Week honors.
In the Cardinals’ three games, Dailey leads the team in total tackles with 33. That includes 19 solo tackles and 14 assists, with two tackles for loss and one forced fumble.
What To Know About University Of Indianapolis Football
UIndy is coming off a 9-2 season that included a perfect record on the way to the Great Lakes Valley Conference title (6-0) and a spot in the Division II playoffs, where the Greyhounds suffered a 35-0 loss to Pittsburg State in the opening round.
In two games this season, UIndy is outscoring its opponents 67-27, while averaging 486.5 total yards per game. That includes an average of 261 passing yards and 225.5 yards on the ground.
Jon Lewis has carried the ball 34 times for the Greyhounds, netting 191 yards and two touchdowns, while sophomore quarterback Gavin Sukup has thrown every pass for UIndy this season. He is 30-for-48 for 522 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions.
After the first week of the season, a 39-20 win over Hillsdale, Sukup was named the GLVC Offensive Player of the Week.
Junior Derrick Alonzo is the top receiver for UIndy with 221 yards and two scores.
Defensively, junior linebacker Clay Schulte found his way into the spotlight as the most recent GLVC Defensive Player of the Week. The nod came after a solid performance against Wayne State that included seven solo tackles and a quarterback hurry.
