CAA Weekly Award Winners - Sept. 25
CAA Football has announced its weekly award winners for Week 4 of the 2023 season.
Elon sophomore running back Jalen Hampton was selected as the Offensive Player of the Week, while Villanova senior linebacker Brendan Bell and Delaware grad student defensive back Khalil Dawsey shared Defensive Player of the Week accolades. New Hampshire senior running back Dylan Laube was chosen as the Special Teams Player of the Week and Campbell freshman wide receiver VJ Wilkins was named the Rookie of the Week.
CAA Football Offensive Player of the Week
Jalen Hampton, So., RB, Elon (Frederick, Md./Georgetown Prep)
Hampton carried 33 times for a season-high 169 yards and a career-best four touchdowns in Elon’s 28-24 victory at Campbell. The four TD’s tied Elon’s FCS school record and matched the most by any FCS player this season. Hampton tallied all four Phoenix scores in the game, reaching the end zone on runs of 10, 6, 1 and 2 yards. It was his second straight game with 150+ rush yards.
CAA Football Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Brendan Bell, Sr., LB, Villanova (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge)
Bell recorded a team-high eight tackles, 2.0 TFL’s and a sack in #25 Villanova’s 35-9 win over #17 Rhode Island. The senior linebacker was the leader of a Wildcats’ defense that held URI to one fourth-quarter touchdown, 60 rushing yards and 241 yards of total offense. The Rams entered the game averaging 34.7 points and 458 yards.
CAA Football Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Khalil Dawsey, Gr., DB, Delaware (Detroit, Mich./Wylie E. Groves)
Dawsey contributed eight tackles, a TFL, a forced fumble and an interception as #19 Delaware rallied past #11 New Hampshire, 29-25. The grad student forced a fumble on the 2-yard line that the Hens recovered for a touchback in the first quarter and picked off a pass at the UD 35-yard line in the fourth period to help the Hens complete the comeback from an early 18-0 deficit.
CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Dylan Laube, Sr., RB/RET, New Hampshire (Westhampton, N.Y./Westhampton Beach)
Laube returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown in New Hampshire’s 29-25 loss at Delaware. The return gave the Wildcats a 25-22 lead in the third quarter. It was the second career 100-yard kickoff return for Laube, who leads FCS in both kick return average (41.4 ypg) and all-purpose yards (246.5 ypg).

CAA Football Rookie of the Week
VJ Wilkins, Fr., WR, Campbell (Pfafftown, N.C./Reagan)
Wilkins made 10 receptions for a career-high 114 yards and a touchdown in Campbell’s 28-24 setback to Elon. The freshman had five catches in the fourth quarter as the Camels fought back from an 18-point deficit. Wilkins ranks third in the CAA with 24 receptions for 269 yards and has a TD catch in three of his four contests.
