CAA Football Announces for Weekly Award Winners
CAA Football has announced its weekly award winners for Week 8 of the 2023 season.
New Hampshire junior quarterback Max Brosmer was chosen as the Offensive Player of the Week, while Towson sophomore linebacker Rodney Roane, Jr. was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week. North Carolina A&T senior kick returner Taymon Cooke was honored as the Special Teams Player of the Week and UAlbany freshman running back Griffin Woodell was named the Rookie of the Week.
CAA Football Offensive Player of the Week
Max Brosmer, Jr., QB, New Hampshire (Roswell, Ga./Centennial)
Brosmer accounted for 356 yards of offense and five touchdowns in New Hampshire’s 45-14 victory at Stony Brook. The junior was 28-of-39 passing for 335 yards and 4 TD’s with no interceptions. He also rushed for 21 yards, including a 9-yard TD run on a fake field goal. It was the fifth 300+-yard passing effort in the past six games for Brosmer, who leads FCS with 21 TD passes.
CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week
Rodney Roane, Jr., So., LB, Towson (Richmond, Va./Life Christian Academy)
Roane recorded a pair of sacks, forced a fumble and had a QB hurry in the fourth quarter of Towson’s 34-24 road win at #12 William & Mary. The linebacker had a strip sack with three minutes to go that the Tigers turned into a TD to seal the victory. Towson held W&M scoreless for a stretch of 42 minutes and limited the Tribe to 95 yards and 5:33 time of possession in the second half to rally from a 17-0 deficit.
CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Taymon Cooke, Sr., KR/WR, North Carolina A&T (Bluefield, Va./Graham)
Cooke recorded his nation’s-best third kickoff return for a touchdown, scoring from 91 yards out against Richmond. The redshirt senior, who reached the end zone on KOR’s of 80 and 94 yards earlier this season, leads FCS in kickoff return average (41.5 avg.). He also tied the A&T record for kickoff return TD’s in a career with four.
CAA Football Rookie of the Week
Griffin Woodell, Fr., RB, UAlbany (Glens Falls, N.Y./Glens Falls)
Woodell rushed for a career-high 115 yards and a TD on 16 carries (7.2 ypc) in UAlbany’s 35-10 win over Rhode Island. The freshman scored the Great Danes’ first TD of the game on a 2-yard run after breaking loose for a 44-yard run on the prior play. Woodell, who also had an 11-yard catch in the game, leads UA with 395 rushing yards.
