When Does High School Football Start In Each State? Here's Where To Watch

The high school football season is on the horizon. Here's what to know about the upcoming season & where you can watch top college recruits play this fall.

The 2024 high school football season is on the horizon and a host of future college recruits are gearing up to hit the gridiron under the Friday night lights.

Mater Dei High School, the four-time High School Football America national champions, is the No. 1 team in preseason high school football rankings, powered by NFL Play Football.

In some states, the opening games begin as early as mid-August. Other states will follow in the coming weeks of September.

Ahead of the 2024 season, here is each state’s high school football start date and how to watch a slate of the games live on FloFootball.

When Does High School Football Start In Each State?

Alabama

  • Season opener/AHSAA Kickoff Classic games will take place August 22-23rd.

Alaska

  • Opening games will take place on Friday, August 16th.

Arizona

  • Classes 1A-3A will play their first games on Friday, August 23rd, and Classes 4A-6A will kick off their season the following Friday, August 30th

Arkansas

  • Opening games will take place on August 29-31st.

California

  • Opening games will begin on August 21st with scrimmages starting as early as August 14th.

Colorado

  • Opening games will take place on Thursday, August 29th.

Connecticut

  • Opening games will take place starting Friday, September 13th.

Delaware

  • Opening games will take place on Thursday, August 29th.

Florida

  • Opening games will take place on Friday, August 23rd.

Georgia

  • Opening games will take place on Friday, August 16th.

Hawaii

  • Opening games will take place on Friday, August 16th.

Idaho

  • Opening games will take place on Friday, August 23rd.

Illinois

  • Classes 1A-8A will play their first games on Thursday, August 29th,

Indiana

  • Opening games will take place on Friday, August 23rd.

Iowa

  • Opening games will take place on Friday, August 30th.

Kansas

  • Opening games will take place starting Thursday, September 5th.

Kentucky

  • Opening games will take place on Friday, August 23rd.
