SDSU football continues their reign at the top. Stats Perform perched them at No. 1 overall in one of the first FCS Top 25 polls of the preseason. South Dakota State received 52 of the 56 first-place votes.

The Jackrabbits successfully defended their national title back in January when they handily defeated Montana, 23-3. The Dakotas were well represented, with South Dakota State (1), North Dakota State (2), South Dakota (5) and North Dakota (24) all appearing in the top 25. Montana and Montana State (who received one first-place vote) landed at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.

The first team represented outside of the midwest and west is Villanova, who clocks in at No. 6.

Villanova football opens their season at home against legendary FCS program Youngstown State, who landed at No. 25 on the Stats Perform poll.
