Villanova comes into the 2024 college football season as the king of the hill in the CAA, at least in terms of preseason rankings. The Wildcats rolled through most of the CAA competition last year, with the exception of a few hiccups against the likes of the force that was 2023 UAlbany football.

Both teams eventually made it to the FCS playoffs, before 'Nova was dispatched in the quarterfinals by eventual champions South Dakota State. UAlbany lost to the same team one round later, in the semifinals.

But the Wildcats return, crucially, Connor Watkins, one of the most experienced and accomplished quarterbacks in the FCS. Watkins, named the CAA Football Preseason Offensive Player of The Year, also gets his partner-in-crime back, wide receiver Jaylan Sanchez -- who had some spectacular moments in 2023.
