Burkett was the Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Wisconsin, then signed with the Big Ten's Wisconsin Badgers in 2022. He reportedly handled most first-team duties in the spring while UAlbany's primary reserve quarterback in 2023, Trey Lindsey, was sidelined due to injury.
