ENMU football had a disappointing 2023, going 5-6 to end the season, but there are reasons for optimism going forward. Eastern New Mexico had an incredibly potent offense, often accumulating impressive score totals even in losing efforts. The Greyhounds ranked second in the conference in points per game, with an average of 32.

The reason for optimism is the orchestrator of that offense, quarterback Mario Sanchez, returns for another season at ENMU. Sanchez threw for 13 touchdowns last year, and rushed for an additional 12 touchdowns -- accounting for 25 of the Greyhounds' 49 touchdowns on the year.

In an increasingly tough conference like the LSC, Eastern New Mexico's offseason was no doubt focused on improving the defense, which ranked near the bottom of the conference last year. If they can, the ceiling is significantly raised for the program. 

The Greyhounds season begins on August 29, with a bout against New Mexico Highlands.

When Do The 2024 D2 College Football Playoffs Start?

The D2 college football playoffs begin on November 23, 2024.

The 2024 Division II College Football Championship game will be played December 21 at the McKinney ISD Stadium in McKinney, Texas.
