Midwestern State football only went 4-6 in 2023, landing and landing in the middle of the Lone Star Conference in 2023, but with a bit more context, there's a different perspective here. The Mustangs were well within a touchdown of winning a handful of games, and against impressive opponents.

MSU lost to Eastern New Mexico by three points in week 4, then in week 5 they lost to UT Permian Basin by eight points at home. A week after that, the Mustangs dropped another home game against an elite Central Washington, but only by three points -- with a final score of 7-10. 

Lastly, in the last game of the 2023 season, Midwestern State lost to Texas A&M-Kingsville 27 to 21. Win even two or three of those games and it's a different situation for the Mustangs.

Which brings us to 2024, the Stangs open the season against Missouri Southern on Thursday, August 29.

When Do The 2024 D2 College Football Playoffs Start?

The D2 college football playoffs begin on November 23, 2024.

The 2024 Division II College Football Championship game will be played December 21 at the McKinney ISD Stadium in McKinney, Texas.
