Grand Valley State football is one of the most consistently elite D2 programs in the country. This week they get their season started against Central State.

GVSU football, back-to-back GLIAC champions, will begin their season this week against Central State (OH).The Lakers bring back 10 offensive starters from last year's 11-2 team. 

Grand Valley State advanced to the Division 2 quarterfinals last season, defeating conference foe Ferris State and Pittsburg State (who beat the Bulldogs last week) before losing to eventual national champion Harding, in a low-scoring affair. 

Avery Moore steps into the starting quarterback role for the Lakers after Cade Peterson graduated.

Central State lost their first game last week to Morehead State, 7-6. The Marauders will no doubt be greeted by a large crowd at GVSU's Lubbers Stadium.

GVSU vs. Central State is Thursday, September 5 at 7:00 p.m. ET.
