CWU football will begin Lone Star Conference play as they head to Canyon, Texas to take on the West Texas A&M Buffaloes. Central Washington began the 2024 season with high hopes, before being unceremoniously knocked off their pedestal by San Diego in week 1. 

Still, the pollsters seem to trust CWU, and the team didn't drop much in the polls. The Wildcats also recovered, defeating Colorado Mesa last week. Central Washington will finish their three-game away trip against the Buffs.

WTAMU is a bit of an unknown quantity, and while they've lost two games to two top-25-ranked teams, the team was only completely outclassed by one of those opponents. The Buffs won their opening game against Sul Ross State 42-21, before losing the last two weeks to No. 5 Colorado Mines and No. 14 Western Colorado. 

West Texas also brings one of the more intriguing offenses in Division 2, led by quarterback Sean Johnon's rushing prowess. Johnson has 276 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns on 37 attempts.

In a week of incredible matchups, CWU vs. West Texas A&M is among the top. Kickoff takes place Saturday, September 21 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
