After a near three hour rain delay due to severe thunderstorms in the Texas panhandle, Central Washington brought the thunder and lightning to Buffalo Stadium on Sept. 21.

The No. 14-ranked Wildcats sent a message to the Lone Star Conference with a dominant 45-3 win over West Texas A&M in a game that ended close to 1 p.m. in Texas.

CWU quarterback Kennedy McGill finished with 178 yards passing and a touchdown throw while Tyler Flanagan scored three touchdowns on 21 carries and 104 yard rushing. McGill added 102 yards on the ground.

But the play that swung the game was Tanner Volk’s 76-yard interception returned for a touchdown that eventually gave the Wildcats a 21-0 lead.

CWU didn’t punt in the game until McGill and Flanagan’s days were over in the fourth quarter.

The Buffaloes finished with just 219 yards of offense and managed just a 34-yard field goal by Preston Gregg in the fourth quarter trailing 38-3.
