No. 24 Delta State football and its conference opener at Erskine will have to wait as Hurricane Helene has forced the game to be canceled. 

The Gulf South Conference said the game will not be rescheduled.

After a dominating start to the season, Delta State slipped up against Wingate, falling 7-21 in a game where they struggled to get going offensively. Last week they scraped by 27-24 against Fort Valley State. They look to regain momentum and find their footing as they began the conference season. Delta State is certainly a talented team with the means to win the Gulf Shore Conference, but only if they are able to perform at a consistently level.

Meanwhile Erskine has taken three straight losses after defeating St. Andrews in the opening week of the season. A solid performance this week on both sides of the ball would definitely be a right step in the direction for them.
