In a thrilling Week 5 of NCAA Division II football, several ranked teams faced surprising defeats. 

Emporia State (Kan.), previously ranked 13th, fell to Northwest Missouri State, 14-9, while Central Missouri, ranked 11th, lost a nail-biter to Nebraska-Kearney, 36-35.

Augustana (S.D.), ranked 18th, suffered a heart-wrenching loss to MSU Moorhead, 43-41, jeopardizing its standing in the polls. Meanwhile, West Florida, ranked 12th, was defeated by Grand Valley State, 31-7, marking a significant upset for the previously strong contender.

On the flip side, Ferris State (Mich.) asserted its dominance with an impressive 84-7 victory over American International, while Colorado Mines triumphed over Saginaw Valley State, 52-28, solidifying its place among the top teams.

Kutztown (Pa.) edged East Stroudsburg, 27-21, and Minnesota State overcame Concordia-St. Paul, 33-20. Charleston (W.Va.) also had a strong performance, defeating Concord, 42-7.

Week 5 was also impacted by Hurricane Helene, which canceled many games this week.
