How To Watch Roosevelt Vs. Ferris State Football

Ferris State has earned the honor to welcome Roosevelt to the GLIAC. They’ll meet Saturday in Michigan for the Lakers’ GLIAC debut. Here's how to watch.

Roosevelt may be new to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, but there’s nothing new about what the Ferris State Bulldogs have been doing to their opponents following an uncharacteristic season-opening loss.

Over their last three games, the Bulldogs have outscored their opponents 183-13, and they’re coming off a record-setting 84-7 performance against American International that included single-game bests for offensive yards (744), rushing yards (486), rushing touchdowns (eight) and points scored.

Ferris State now brings that incredible momentum home to Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Michigan, where the Bulldogs’ homecoming game also will be the GLIAC debut for Roosevelt.

The contest is set to begin at 2 p.m. Eastern.

Ferris State (3-1) started the year with a head-scratching 19-3 loss to Pittsburg State, and while the Gorillas continue to be a top-10 playoff-caliber team, the 171-yard effort from the Bulldogs was unlike anything fans have seen from the 2021 and 2022 Division II national champions.

It’s safe to assume the season opener was a one-off for Ferris State and things are back on track heading into the start of conference play.

The Bulldogs are ranked No. 5 in the latest American Football Coaches Association Division II Poll, and they’re still expected to battle with No. 2 Grand Valley State for the GLIAC title again this year.

Over the last three seasons, the conference crown was decided by the intense rivalry game between the two, the Anchor-Bone Classic, with GVSU winning the last two.

The 2024 edition of the Anchor-Bone Classic still is a few weeks away (Oct. 26), and for that contest to potentially have the same value, Ferris State must do its part in conference games against Roosevelt, Wayne State and Michigan Tech.

MTU, Wayne State and Roosevelt were selected to finish fifth, sixth and eighth, respectively, in the eight-team GLIAC, while Ferris State edged GVSU at the top of the preseason poll.

Entering Week 6 of the 2024 season, Grand Valley State is 4-0 and set to begin conference play Saturday against dark horse Davenport.

Roosevelt is 0-3 after losses to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (24-14), Valparaiso (31-23) and Campbellsville (24-8).

Roosevelt isn’t only new to the GLIAC, the team also is playing at the NCAA Division II level for the first time. The Lakers were accepted to the Division II level following a 7-3 campaign in 2022. They’re coming off a 6-4 season in 2023.
