Carson-Newman football have quickly become one of the surprising stories in NCAA D2 football. The Eagles are off to their best start since 2007, going undefeated through their first four games. The program went 5-6 last season, and is only three seasons removed from a 1-9 campaign. Their next opponent is Barton College, who come into the contest at 2-2.

Through the first two games, the Carson-Newman Eagles holistically defeated their opponents, dropping 50+ and allowing only 32 points overall. But the last two games, C-N have grinded out wins against quality conference opponents. Two weeks ago, C-N took then-top-25-ranked Wingate to OT before winning with a field goal. Then last week, the Eagles scored a touchdown with 25 seconds left to defeat Catawaba. 

Barton have yet to find consistency across four games, losing their first and third games, while losing the other two. However, the Bulldogs are only a week removed from their most complete game of the season, defeating Anderson 27-13.
