In a day filled with upsets and surprises in college football, it continues to get even crazier, with Delta State adding a tremendous victory against No. 10 West Alabama a week drawn from the loss against West Florida.

West Alabama loses its first game of the season, falling to 6-1 (2-1) on the season, and Delta State football improves to 5-2 (2-1). The Statesmen will return to the road next week to play Chowan while the Tigers are returning home next week for a showdown against North Greenville.

Depending on how the rest of the day ends for the division, it is very likely that the West Alabama football team could fall out of the top 25 rankings, much like Delta State did last week when they lost on the road to a newly ranked team.

The defense stole the show for the Statesmen with both teams being shutout in the second half and making some crucial stops when the Tigers had exceptional field position, including two drives that started well on their side of the field as West Alabama began drives on the DSU 20 and 11 yard line.

Three total turnovers were created by two recovered fumbles out of the three forced and effecting Tigers quarterback Spencer Arceneaux to cause him to go 35-61 and throw one interception while getting sacked three times throughout the game. Every time it looked as if West Alabama were going to get things rolling, they were denied over and over, leading to the eventual defeat.
