College Football Fans Should Watch These 5 Games In Week 10. Here's Why

It's a good week to start watching college football. Here's our recommendations for what to stream on FloFootball in Week 10 of the college football season.

Chaos reigns in the college football landscape.

Just a week ago, GVSU was in the No. 1 spot, looking down upon the D2 football kingdom from their throne.

This week, depending on who you ask, there are several different teams who are vying for that crown.

With less than a month left in the college football regular season, nothing is concrete. Case in point: No. 3 Ouachita Baptist's loss last night to a winless team.

The only thing predictable about the season is its unpredictability.

Here's why you should watch these five games this week.

How To Watch D2 Football In 2024

In 2024, hundreds of Division II football games will stream live on FloFootball and the FloSports app.

Game replays, highlights and breaking news will be on both platforms.

Why To Watch Central Washington Vs. Angelo State

  • Records:
    • No. 17 Central Washington 6-2
    • Angelo State 6-2
  • Day/Time: Saturday, November 2 at 7:00 p.m. ET
  • Stream link
  • King Of The Hill

    • For my money, this is the best game of the week.
    • Central Washington (6-2) heads to San Angelo for a showdown with the Angelo State Rams (6-2).
    • Whatever team wins will have a path to the D2 playoffs (more on that below).
    • Angelo State joined the Lone Star Conference in 1968.
    • Central Washington joined Lone Star Conference football as an affiliate member in 2022.
  • Subtle Reminder: THERE ARE NO AUTOMATIC BIDS IN D2 FOOTBALL (yells into the void)

    • In case you forgot, Division 2 football is a unicorn when it comes to the playoffs.
    • The Super Region format is unique, and completely different from how FBS, FCS, and D3 do playoff business.
    • No conference champion is guaranteed a spot in the D2 playoffs, and any conference can get shutout completely from the postseason if the selection committee deems it so.
    • Last year, Davenport in the GLIAC won every game until their last two, against Ferris State and GVSU. They did not make the D2 playoffs.
    • Angelo State themselves went 7-3 a season ago and missed out because Central Washington and UTPB garnered the bids.
    • The best chance any team can give themselves at this point in the season, is to win out.
  • Another Brick In The Wall (Of Defense)

    • By the numbers, these are two of the best defenses in D2, but there are some interesting differences.
    • In scoring defense, ASU is ranked No. 6, allowing just 10.25 points per game.
    • CWU is ranked No. 9 in scoring defense at 13.00 points per game.
    • CWU is better in total defense (226.6 ypg) than Angelo State (253.8 ypg).
    • Bot teams have only given up 10 offensive touchdowns total.
    • But the most interesting tidbit is how little offenses have played against CWU.
  • Get Out Of My Yard

    • Central Washington's defense has allowed only 396 plays against opposing offenses through eight games (third-best in D2).
    • They are the only team in D2 that has played eight games and allowed less than 400 plays to opponents.
    • CWU is also leading D2 in time of possession.
    • All this goes to say the Wildcats are holding the ball longer than their opponents, and even when they don't have the ball, they are forcing a lot of three-and-outs.

Why To Watch Chowan Vs. Valdosta State

  • Records:
    • No. 1 Valdosta State 7-0
    • Chowan 2-5
  • Day/Time: Saturday, November 2 at 3:00 p.m. ET
  • Stream link
  • This Is Not A Test

    • Valdosta is going to get tested this season, but --- all due respect to Chowan --- it likely won't be this week
    • The Blazers have coasted through the season so far, blowing out just about every game.
    • They avoided a meeting with No. 15 West Alabama in September due to Hurricane Helene.
    • But they have two big games coming up to close out the season, against previously ranked Delta State and No. 21 West Florida.
  • Blazers Gonna Blaze

    • In terms of yards per game allowed, only Harding (87 ypg) and Colorado Mesa (119 ypg), have a better passing defense than Valdosta State (122 ypg).
    • However, no one is better in D2 than VSU in passing touchdowns allowed.
    • They have only given up 2 passing touchdowns through seven games, and only 7 touchdowns total.
  • Bring Back Blaze The Dragon

    • VSU's current mascot is a matchstick on fire, called Blaze.
    • But there was once by that name.
    • I would like to champion the effort to bring back Valdosta's '90s mascot -- Blaze the Dragon.
    • Look at this fit.

Why To Watch Ferris State Vs. Northern Michigan

  • Records:
    • No. 2 Ferris State 7-1
    • Northern Michigan
  • Day/Time: Saturday, November 2 at 1:00 p.m. ET
  • Stream link
  • Ferris State Jilted By Polls

    • There are those who believe Ferris State has done enough to be ranked No. 1 in the Top 25 polls, especially after defeating the previous undisputed No. 1-ranked team, Grand Valley State.
    • But only a handful of those folks are voting in the AFCA and D2football.com polls.
    • Last week in the D2football poll, Ferris State was ranked No. 4. They have since moved up to No. 2, while the only team to beat them this year, Pittsburg State, moved to No. 1. We don't know how many No. 1 votes Ferris received, but "not enough" is apparently the answer.
    • In the AFCA poll, Ferris State sits at No. 2 behind No. 1 Valdosta State. The Bulldogs received eight No. 1 votes in that poll, compared to the Blazers' 18 votes.
    • Don't mistake this as disrespect towards Pittsburg or Valdosta. Both teams are great.
  • "Polls Don't Matter"

    • Yes, this is usually the response when a poll doesn't go a certain way. It's a deflection, because the truth is: polls exist for a reason.
    • Back in the old days, polls decided "champions," so whether it's pure vanity at this point or they just keep fans entertained, they exist.
    • (Side note: Unlike pre-BCS D1, Division 2 has held a postseason to decide a champion since 1973. Before that, a wire service poll decided the title).
  • The Point: Glory Is Fleeting

    • Last night, No. 5/No. 3 Ouachita Baptist lost their first game of the season to a winless team, Southern Nazarene (0-8).
    • Earlier this season, Ouachita Baptist was the team that knocked off No. 1 Harding.
    • The point is, these rankings can be fleeting, and Ferris State has done enough to earn the No. 1 spot.
    • Whether they have it or not, they've earned our respect for now.
    • Now they have to defeat a different winless team, Northern Michigan (0-8).

Why To Watch Monmouth Vs. Rhode Island

  • Records:
    • No. 14 Rhode Island 7-1
    • Monmouth 4-4
  • Day/Time: Saturday, November 2 at 1:00 p.m. ET
  • Stream link
  • The Derek Robertson Show

    • Monmouth's (4-4) season may not have gone perfectly, but Derek Robertson has been a revelation.
    • The quarterback has passed for over 2,500 yards, with 21 touchdowns in 8 games.
    • Robertson has passed for 300+ yards in six of his eight games.
    • He's also passing for volume, too, with 290 passing attempts, the fourth-most attempts in the FCS.
    • But, he's been accurate with a passing efficiency of 159.29 and only six interceptions.
  • Rhode Island Can Run Away With CAA Title

    • URI put away Maine last week, 24-14, for their sixth consecutive win this season.
    • The Rams have been one of the biggest surprises of the CAA this season.
    • Despite not blowing opponents away, Rhode Island sits at 7-1 right now, ranked No. 14 in the AFCA poll.
    • Their in charge of the CAA standings as well.
    • If they can defeat Monmouth, the rest of their schedule should garner at least two wins: Delaware, UAlbany and Bryant.

Why to Watch Wayne State (MI) Vs. Grand Valley State

  • Records:
    • No. 7 Grand Valley State 7-1
    • Wayne State 0-8
  • Day/Time: Saturday, November 2 at 3:00 p.m. ET
  • Stream link
  • The Bad News

    • Who Is Starting At QB For GVSU?
    • After Avery Moore left the game against Ferris State with an injury, GVSU"s offense mostly sputtered.
    • Ike Udengwu was able to come in and pass for the Lakers' only TD of the day, but he also left the game with what seemed like an injury.
  • The Good News

    • GVSU probably got their one loss of the season out of the way and it was a worthy opponent.
    • The rest of the season is looking easier, as they have Wayne State, Michigan Tech and Roosevelt.
    • Tech will be the toughest, at 5-3. The other two teams are a combined 1-14.
