Ferris State Almost Falls To Saginaw Valley St., Keeps 9-Game Streak Alive
8-1 Ferris State Bulldogs took on 7-2 Saginaw Valley St. Cardinals in one of the best remaining GLIAC games of the 2024 season. Read the recap of the game.
No. 2 Ferris State hosted the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Michigan. Kickoff was at 1 p.m. ET on FloFootball. The 8-1 Bulldogs will took on the 7-2 Cardinals in one of the best remaining Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games of the season.

After defeating Grand Valley State handily in the Anchor-Bone Classic earlier this season, few stood in the way of Ferris State being the best team in Division II football this season. Only Valdosta State remains ranked above the Bulldogs in the AFCA Division II Coaches Poll.
Further down, Saginaw Valley State has a great record and has been earning votes every week since week eight. They entered this week's game in Big Rapids after a 24-14 win over Davenport on November 2.
Ferris State continued their win streak to make it 9 although Saginaw Valley State put up a great show and kept it close until the very end.

After a pass interference call gives the Bulldogs first down with less than two minutes remaining, Ferris State is able to run the clock out for the remainder of time and secure the win over a very hardy Saginaw Valley St. Cardinals team.

With just five minutes remaining in the 4th quarter of this GLIAC shootout, Saginaw Valley went for a field goal kick of 43 yards. The kick from Rodrigo Castaneda was no good and the Cardinals remain 3 points to the deficit of the Bulldogs.

Trinidad Chambliss threw his first interception of the game to Brandon Rawls of the Cardinals, giving them great field position as they try to make the comeback. End of the 3rd quarter.

The Cardinals have been able to take advantage of a few opportunities to get themselves back into scoring territory after the Bulldogs squandered a few offensive drives.

The Cardinals catch a lucky break off of a fumble by Chambliss that bounces around between three or four Saginaw Valley St. players before they're able to lay on it and collect possession.
Cardinals Unable To Get It Going, Punt - Bulldogs Do The Same
Bulldogs get the ball back with 8:05 remaining in the 3rd quarter on the FSU31. They quickly took a few long shots down the field and without any completions, were unable to keep the ball. They punt, SVSU ball on their own 18.

A short pitch from Chambliss to Rose and Rose was able to get to speed and turn up the field to make it into the endzone giving the Bulldogs a 10-point lead.

Cardinals Get Ball First, Bulldogs Make Stop After 6 Plays
SVSU was only able to get enough speed to get one first down, the Bulldogs defense was able to quickly put a stop to that progress. Ferris State gets the ball on the FSU48 to start their first possession of the half.

A huge punt return that effectively nullified the punt gave the Cardinals excellent field position to enable McKenzie to squeeze through and scramble into the endzone for the remaining 36 yards.

Off of a pass from Chambliss to Brady Rose, Rose offers the deep ball to Underwood who's behind the entire Cardinals defense. He was able to dodge a tackle and give a stiff arm to the lone defenders in his way. Touchdown Bulldogs to tie it up!

A 44-yard punt plus a five yard illegal shift penalty on FSU gives the Bulldogs the ball on their own 35.
Incomplete Passes And Penalties Keep Bulldogs From Progress
Trinidad Chambliss and Kannon Katzer tried to get their synergy going but were unable to get the ball moving down the field with the Saginaw Valley State defense hemming them in. Penalties have poked their head out as an early issue for the Bulldogs with a few untimely false start and holding calls. They punt away.

Bulldogs Launch Fast But Stalled Out By SVSU, Punt Away
Trinidad Chambliss and the Ferris State offense is off and rolling in their first possession of the game. They were moving quickly out of the gates with a large gain by Chambliss but SVSU's defense made some good stops to keep them in the midfield and hold the Bulldogs to 4th down and a punt away after 7 plays.
