No. 2 SUNY Cortland Football trailed SUNY Brockport 14-0 after one quarter and trailed 21-17 at halftime and Mike Baloga nailed a 38-yard field goal with 1:27 left to give Cortland a 29-28 win over its rival. 

That game was one of two nail-biters among the top-3 teams in NCAA Division III football during the penultimate week of the 2024 season. While No. 1 North Central scored 70 points in its 63-point win over Elmhurst, No. 3 Mount Union also had a brush with losing.

Mount Union needed everything it had to beat No. 23 Marietta 29-21 on Nov. 9 in NCAA Division III football.
