Ferris State football is heading to the NCAA Division II National Championship game for the first time since 2022. The Bulldogs won in a stunning 48-38 comeback against Slippery Rock in the D2 Playoff Semifinals.

Trailing for much of the game, FSU mounted their comeback in the second half on fantastic efforts by quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and running back Kannon Katzer.

Slippery Rock nearly the entire game, but Ferris State kept finding ways to hang around, primarily from defense and special teams.

SRU led by 14 points entering the fourth quarter, before a game-changing 69-yard touchdown run from Katzer put the Bulldogs ahead. Chambliss, despite a sluggish start, played a crucial role in the win with 221 passing yards, 124 rushing yards, and four total touchdowns.

The Bulldogs' defense forced multiple turnovers, including two crucial interceptions in the endzone that kept Slippery Rock from extending their lead.

Ferris State now prepares for a showdown with Valdosta State in McKinney, Texas, where they will aim to claim their third national title.

VSU will be aiming for their fifth national title, and first since 2018.

One More Hour...

Does Ferris State take care of business or will Slippery Rock upset the Bulldogs?

Big Rapids Looking Cold 🥶

Carson Gulker Returns?

Carson Gulker, who was Ferris State's starting quarterback to start the season, gave his first interview this week since sustaining a significant injury two games into the season. Gulker was primed to be the primary engine behind a high-powered Bulldog offense this year, but then-back-up QB Trinidad Chambliss took the baton and ran, literally, with it.

Chambliss has 22 passing touchdowns and 20 rushing touchdowns this season. He's been shortlisted for numerous awards and will no doubt be an All-American. In truth, he's been one of the best players in all of college football this season.

Now the kicker: Gulker had 10 passing touchdowns and 14 rushing touchdowns last season as a back-up quarterback to Mylik Mitchell. He's arguably as talented as Chambliss, and should he return this week or next week for the National Championship, he's an absolute game-changer for the Bulldogs offense that is already bursting at the seams with talent.

Now, would Gulker play quarterback? It's possible, but Chambliss certainly remains the starter. Maybe Gulker lines up in Wildcat? Maybe he's used as a running back. Either way, the rich get richer.
