All the blood, sweat, and tears from training camps, practice, and workouts have all come to this Saturday, Dec. 21, in the Division II national championship game.

Valdosta State takes on Ferris State in the final game for the third time in six seasons, seeking its fifth title in program history.

The Blazers will play in their seventh national championship game, while Ferris State football will play in the final game for the fourth time.

There is no question that Valdosta State is an all-time winning program with impressive stats over the years, but here are five other stats to know about Valdosta State.

1. Valdosta State Is 4-2 In D2 National Title Games

  • Valdosta State has been successful in the final game, losing only two out of six.
  • The Blazers won their first title in 2004 against Pittsburg State 36-31 after losing the first appearance by seven points to Grand Valley State.
  • After winning the first championship, Valdosta State went on to win its following three appearances before losing again in 2021, including a win and a loss to Ferris State.

2. The Offense And Defense Has Been Stellar

  • All season, Valdosta State has shown that it does a great job of scoring points and stopping its opponents from scoring.
  • Quarterback Sammy Edwards led the Blazers to an average of 42.15 points, throwing for 30 touchdowns, 3,101 passing yards, and only two interceptions.
  • The Blazers' attack is balanced, with running backs Alfonso Franklin and Blake Hester with 30 combined touchdowns.
  • The defense, on the other hand, has locked down opponents all year, only allowing 11 points per game while forcing a total of 22 turnovers.

3. Valdosta State Knows When To Get To Hot

  • Every time the Blazers have won it all, a big winning streak to finish the regular season has been a big part of it.
  • Aside from the undefeated championship season in 2018, every other year, Valdosta State goes on a massive winning streak to conclude the season and eventually uses that momentum to go through the postseason and win the title.

4. The Blazers Have Only Trialed In 1 Game This Year

  • There is no question that Valdosta State has dominated teams all year, but this is still a mind-blowing stat.
  • It may not be surprising to see how great the team has played all year, but it is shocking to know that a team has controlled its opponents that much.
  • The only game Valdosta State started falling behind against was on the road against North Greenville.

5. 3 Out Of 4 Title Wins Were Decided By A Total Of 12 Points

  • Historically, Valdosta State is no stranger to pulling out a close win in big games, even though the team has blown out most of the teams it has played this season.
  • Besides 2012, when they defeated Winston-Salem State by 28 points, all of the other crowing moments have come in intense games where the result could have gone either way, but in the end, Valdosta State came out on top.
