Saguaro defeats Catalina Hills in 2017 season opener.
TUCSON, Ariz. -- In a rematch of last season's Arizona Class 4A football state championship game, Saguaro was once again dominant against one of the top teams in the state, racing out to a 41-0 lead before cruising to a 41-13 victory over Catalina Hills on Friday.
Sabercats' running back La'Ray Lucas started the scoring with a 1-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter, shortly before a power surge delayed play for 20 minutes.

Lucas would rush for three touchdowns before the night was finished. Quarterback Max Massingale capped the Saguaro scoring barrage with a 38-yard touchdown toss to Nate Polk -- who provided most of the heavy lifting on the play.

After losing eight eventual Division I players to graduation, questions have persisted about Saguaro's ability to continue a run of success that includes four straight state championships and win streak that is now at 26 games. The Sabercats responded resoundingly on opening night.
The team's next test comes on Friday, Aug. 26, when the team travels to Henderson, NV, to take on Nevada powerhouse Liberty in what figures to be one of the premier matchups on the national high school slate.
