Surprised By Tarik Cohen? You Shouldn't Be
Chicago Bears running back Tarik Cohen was a star at North Carolina A&T
Tarik Cohen racked up 158 all-purpose yards against Atlanta in his first game as a pro on Sept. 10 -- and sent fantasy owners everywhere scrambling to claim the 5-foot-6, 180-pound Chicago Bears rookie off waivers.
The performance -- and subsequent efforts against Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh -- have been a major surprise to NFL fans; most of whom were completely unaware of Cohen prior to this season.
But his playmaking ability really shouldn't have been a massive epiphany. The former North Carolina A&T running back isn't new to making plays -- most fans are just new to witnessing his exploits.
Here's proof.
Now:
Then:
Turns out game-breaking change of direction translates at the next level.
Then:
Cohen is short. He's not small. And he runs big.
Now:
Then:
The Bears aren't the first team to get Cohen involved in the pass game. His great hands have been great for a while now.
Now:
Then:
Cohen's burst after he clears the first level of defenders looked like something out of a video game in college. He's still playing video games in the league.
Now:
Then:
Oh, and he's still breaking off monster touchdown runs. A weak overturn spoiled his most recent would-be walk-off home run, but that won't keep us from losing our minds over it.
Tarik Cohen isn't new. He's just new to you. And North Carolina A&T didn't accidentally produce an athlete like this. The Aggies are lethal on offense again in 2017 thanks to Lamar Raynard and the next wave of elite athletes like Cohen.
