Hendrickson Cruises Past Bowie 44-21
Hendrickson defeated Austin Bowie 44-21 in the first round of the UIL Playoffs.
Pflugerville Hendrickson ran for 342 yards on its way to a decisive 44-21 victory over Austin Bowie in the opening round of the Texas UIL Class 6A Division I playoffs on Friday in Austin.
Senior running back DJ Jackson played a prevalent role for the Hawks, taking control of the game on his seventh touch of the night — a short throw from quarterback Blaine Barker that Jackson turned into a 78-yard touchdown.
The 78-yard scoring play was the first of two for Jackson, who would race the same distance after taking a handoff as the second quarter was winding to a close. Jackson's encore gave Hendrickson a 28-6 lead.
At the break, the Hawks led 31-14 and Jackson had 237 total yards to his name.
The Hendrickson defense was equally impressive, forcing three turnovers and holding Bowie to 38 yards on 24 carries.
The Hawks (8-3) will meet Saturday's winner of Spring and Klein next week in the area round. The Bulldogs end their season at 8-3.
