Steele Keeps Rolling, Eliminates Vandegrift
Steele defeated Vandegrift 36-18 in the area round of the UIL Playoffs.
Four straight losses were a long time ago.
Cibolo Steele won its seventh straight game on Friday in New Braunfels, Texas, throttling Vandegrift 36-18 to advance to the regional round of the UIL Class 6A, Division II Playoffs.
The key for the Vipers (7-5) was always going to be stopping Steele running back Brenden Brady — and it just didn’t happen. Brady ripped Vandegrift for 188 rushing yards and four touchdowns to lead the Knights (8-4) to another win.

It was the second time in consecutive seasons that the Vipers’ season has ended at the hands of Steele in the area round. Meanwhile, the Knights advance to play Weslaco East (9-3) in the regional round next Friday at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Brady scored all three Steele touchdowns in the first half but turned the ball over on a pair of fumbles, leading to 10 Vandegrift points. The Knights led 22-10 at the break.
It was impossible to find much fault in Brady despite the miscues, though, as he carried the bulk of the offensive load for Steele — literally — hauling the football on 33 carries for what would have been over 200 yards were it not for an errant snap that he was forced to fall on for a 30-yard loss.
That's a wrap from Vandegrift & Steele. @BrendenBrady25 and the rest of the Knights proved to be too much for the Vipers. #Txhsfbplayoffs #txhsfb
