The Hippos Hang On To Defeat A&M Consolidated
Hutto defeated A&M Consolidated 24-21 in the area round of the UIL Playoffs.
Hutto jumped out to a two-touchdown advantage, led by 10 at the break, and held on for a 24-21 victory over A&M Consolidated in the Class 5A, Division II area round of the Texas UIL Playoffs on Friday in Waller.
The Hippos (11-1) got on the board with a 19-yard touchdown pass from Chase Griffin to Caden Dykowski to grab the early 7-0 lead. Consol (9-3) fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Hutto had possession again deep in its opponents’ territory.
With 3:19 to go in the first quarter, Jayden Medina from a yard out and the lead was 14.
On the ensuing possession Daylan Faltysek found Aaron Campbell for a 66-yard touchdown to cut the deficit in half.
Things got relatively quiet over the course of the next eight minutes until Hutto kicker Isodoro Berrios knocked home a 23-yard field goal to make it a two possession game, 17-7.

A little over three minutes later, the Hippos capitalized on a blocked punt with a Griffin to DJ Baptist 25-yard touchdown pass to push the lead to 24-7.
The Tigers would answer with a touchdown-scoring drive of their own on the next possession, beating the clock with a 5-yard touchdown pass from Faltysek to Devin Price to set the eventual halftime tally at 24-14, Hutto.
After a scoreless third quarter, Faltysek found Steven Ray with a 6-yard touchdown toss to pull within a field goal at 24-21 — with 8:02 still to play in the fourth quarter.
A&M @ConsolFootball made a great attempt in the second half, but @HuttoHS_Fball was able to hold onto their lead and advance to the 3rd round of the UIL playoffs.

Unfortunately for Consol — or for neutral fans who love overtime — the Tigers would get not closer. On fourth-and-1, with just over a minute to play, Hutto converted, effectively ending the game.
The Hippos will face Fort Bend Marshall (9-2) in the regional round next Friday in Cypress.
