Tropical Bowl Offers Last Chance To Make First Impression
The Tropical Bowl allows college players the opportunity for one last first impression before professional scouts.
This week in beautiful Daytona Beach, Fla., the 2019 Tropical Bowl will take place in Municipal Stadium.
Once the calendar turns to January, it's All-Star game season and this particular All-Star game provides an opportunity for lesser known or forgotten about players to answer question that may remain from NFL scouts.
You may wonder how after a prospect's collegiate career are their questions still left to answer by these players.
Take for instance former BYU QB Tanner Mangum. The former Cougars QB's career got off to a fantastic start, only to be derailed by injuries and changes to the coaching staff, which stymied his growth as a prospect.
Former @BYUfootball QB Tanner Mangum was very introspective in regards to his collegiate career, what he brings to the table as an #NFL QB & what he's out to prove here at @TropicalBowlUSA ??https://t.co/sfE1fSyQfA pic.twitter.com/qITEZ6mPNy

And it's not always about injuries.
Sometimes a player can go through his entire college career unscathed and break records even.
Another prospect, Devlin Hodges out of Samford, exemplifies just that. Hodges was a 4-year starter at QB for the Bulldogs, breaking the All-Time FCS passing record that was set by the late Steve "Air" McNair while at Alcorn State.
Despite throwing for over 11,000 yards and winning the Walter Payton Award, which is the FCS equivalent to the Heisman Trophy, Hodges knows this week is huge for him.
I'm a big proponent of the notion that 'size is not a skill' and two undersized prospects in San Jose State's DT Boogie Roberts and Michigan State's LB Andrew Dowell have to not only competed against the opponents in front of them, but also against age-old stereotypes about the position they play that is normally held by bigger guys.

So, even though you may have seen these players play before at their respective colleges, the Tropical Bowl is still a must see because these players, and others competing this week and in this game, understand the significance and the opportunity they possess to change the minds of those that can change the course of their futures.
You are bound to see something you haven't seen before in this game from these players because it could be their last chance to make a first impression.
