The South Atlantic Conference Football Players Of The Week
Limestone running back Tre Stewart was tabbed as the Offensive Player of the Week.
The South Atlantic Conference announced its Football Players of the Week for games played during the second week of the 2022 season. Limestone running back Tre Stewart was tabbed as the Offensive Player of the Week, while Wingate defensive end DJ Horne was named the Defensive Player of the Week, and Wingate kicker Ethan Evans picked up Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
Stewart, a sophomore running back from Winston-Salem, N.C., led the Saints to a 73-14 win over Saint Augustine’s. He rushed for 120 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries and hauled in five passes for 77 yards. Stewart finished the game with 197 all-purpose yards in the win.
Horne, a senior from Lawrenceville, Ala., was part of a Bulldog defense that held Fayetteville State to just 60 total yards of offense on Saturday in Wingate’s 21-3 win over the Broncos. Horne finished the game with seven tackles, including two sacks for a loss of 12 yards and two tackles for loss.
Evans, a senior from Mt. Airy, N.C., was instrumental in helping keep Fayetteville State off the board on Saturday. He had seven punts for 371 yards, averaging 53 yards per punt with a booming 61-yard punt. Additionally, Evans was a perfect three-for-three on extra points, scoring three points for the Bulldogs.
