The first in-season High School Football America 100, powered by NFL Play Football, is shaped by 27 head-to-head matchups inside the national rankings this past weekend.
Southern California powers Mater Dei and St. John Bosco remain No. 1 and No. 2 respectively. However, Georgia’s Buford makes a big move inside the Top 10 after shutting out preseason No. 3 St. Frances Academy (Maryland) 18-0 Friday night. Buford jumps three spots to No. 4 in the latest rankings created with HSFA’s proprietary algorithm.
SFA tumbles to No. 7 this week. The Panthers will try to get into the win column next Saturday when they travel to South Florida to face No. 14 Chaminade-Madonna in a nationally-televised game on ESPN. The game is part of the seven-game Broward County National Football Showcase that will feature ten teams ranked in the HSFA 100.
Defending national champ St. John Bosco heads to Florida to face No. 6 St. Thomas Aquinas. The Braves have won 16 straight against out-of-state opponents since losing to STA in 2017. The Raiders are going after a fifth straight Florida 7A state championship this year.
Bishop Gorman moves-up a notch to No. 3 this week. The Gaels opened with a come-from-behind win over No. 70 Corner Canyon (Utah). It was the first of five straight games against nationally-ranked opponents for Gorman. This week, BG plays No. 74 Long Beach Poly (California).
No. 5 IMG Academy (Florida) picked up a quality win with a 35-10 win over preseason No. 23 Lipscomb Academy, Tennessee’s two-time defending Division II-AA champ. This week, the Ascenders will play No. 10 St. Joseph’s Prep from Pennsylvania, the state’s defending 6A state champ.
Buford isn’t the only Georgia team making a move in the Top 25 this week. Colquitt County is up five notches to No. 13 after an impressive win over preseason No. 11 Dutch Fork, South Carolina’s defending 5A champ.
Then there’s defending Georgia 6A champ Langston Hughes, which moves from No. 25 to No. 17 this week. Friday night, Hughes came from behind to beat 2022 7A runner-up Carrollton 39-35 in a game that was televised on ESPN.
